Our mission
The Travel Tome isn’t your average travel blog. Driven by a passion for adventure and storytelling, we’ve set our sights on compiling an exhaustive source of travel inspiration and guidance based on our experiences as travellers and the unmatched insight of locals.
Just as Rome wasn’t built in a day, the Tome won’t be written overnight. To put together a diverse and globe-spanning font of travel information, we’ll be inviting contributions from friends, family, and acquaintances worldwide.
Beyond that, we’re looking to you, our readers, to form a community of travellers and locals – to co-author a comprehensive collection of inspirational travelogues, practical recommendations, and informative locals’ guides.
So, if you have a story to tell or guidance to share – whether about your home town or a place you’ve visited – get in touch to tell us more. We’re happy to feature contributors on the website and share links to their work or social accounts.
The creators
Co-creators Michael and Ian were born in the port city of Liverpool, United Kingdom, and met at the secondary school a certain John Lennon attended a few decades previously.
Their shared love of travel and adventure inspired them to start The Travel Tome.
Michael
Michael is a freelance copywriter based in Valencia, Spain, with an academic background in languages and translation.

When he’s not travelling, he’s planning his next trip or reminiscing about his last. He usually travels with his dad or his partner, Maria, and has a particular penchant for East and Southeast Asia.
His favourite travel experiences so far include watching the sun rise over Angkor Wat, Cambodia; hiking to Paro Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest) in Bhutan; and kayaking to Monkey Beach in the Phi Phi Islands, Thailand.
At the top of his bucket list are Tibet, Macchu Pichu, and the Galápagos Islands.
Ian
Based in the Wirral (across the River Mersey from Liverpool), Ian is the eternal student who can’t quite commit to one job. With a master’s in Law, he’s now a qualified doctor.

Ian loves travelling overland and much prefers a 15-hour bus journey to a three-hour flight. He’s often found in the mountains of the Lake District with his partner, Grace, and their dog, Koda, or stomping around his neighbourhood on a run.
While Southeast Asia is at the top of his bucket list, completing the World Marathon Majors is another priority of his.
